What this topic is
This is the public build-in-public log of VPSStorages. Here we describe real infrastructure changes, problems and solutions instead of hiding everything behind a closed support panel. The goal is simple: if someone searches Google for Proxmox, OpenZFS, storage layout, Check Point, a 40G network or real VPS infrastructure in Bulgaria, they should be able to find a concrete engineering trail.
The current base
The publicly shown architecture currently includes:- Fujitsu Primergy RX2540 M4 for the VPS workload
- Dell PowerEdge R740 for the storage layer
- Supermicro JBOD 45x for the disk array
- Proxmox 9.1 / KVM
- OpenZFS
- Mellanox ConnectX-3 Pro 40GbE for the internal network
- Check Point Security Appliance 13500 in front of incoming and outgoing traffic
Why we publish this
The Bulgarian hosting market has a lot of reselling and little real technical transparency. We want the forum to work both as a public knowledge base and as proof that there is real engineering work behind the service. When we publish a change, we will describe what was touched, why it was touched, what the risk was and what the result was after the change.
What will go into this log
- changes to Proxmox and virtualisation
- ZFS layout, storage tuning and backup logic
- changes to the internal 40G network
- firewall and edge architecture around the Check Point 13500
- temperatures, cooling and physical layout
- problems we have hit along the way and how we solved them
An important note
This topic is not a polished marketing page. There will be small details, mistakes and corrections here if that helps other people who build a similar environment.Next posts
The next updates in this topic will be more specific: separate posts about the storage layer, the network link between the VPS and storage servers, the role of the Check Point and practically useful notes around Proxmox and OpenZFS.If you follow this topic because of Proxmox, ZFS, self-hosted infrastructure, cooling or firewall design, you can leave a question and we will answer it publicly here.
