What is ZFS and why do we use it?

ZFS is a modern file system that we use for all VPS plans at VPSStorages. Here is why:

What makes ZFS special?

Snapshots — an instant snapshot of the disk. If something breaks, you go back in seconds.

Mirror (RAID-1) — all data is written to two disks at the same time. If one fails, the data is safe.

Integrity checking — ZFS automatically detects and corrects data errors.

Compression — data is compressed automatically, so you save disk space.

Our configuration

All pools are in a mirror configuration:
  • VPS Start → 2x Micron SSD 480GB mirror
  • VPS Plus → 2x Toshiba SAS 3.84TB mirror
  • VPS Power → 2x Samsung NVMe 1.92TB mirror

Snapshots for clients

On request we can take a snapshot of your VPS before an important change.
