Having a backup and being able to restore from it are two different things. The first often exists only as confidence. The second requires habit, verification and operational discipline.
That is why we do not consider a backup without a restore drill to be complete protection. If you have never validated how the restore works, how long it takes and where the risks are, you are hoping rather than relying on it.
What should be clear in advance
- what exactly you can restore
- how long the restore process really takes
- what happens if the backup exists but the environment is different
- what the operational path is in a stressful situation
